Overview
Our skilled team of dentists at Preferred Dental of Cromwell are pleased to provide revolutionary dental implants for patients seeking a long-lasting solution for tooth loss. Dental implants are metal posts that are surgically placed in your gums and jawbone to replicate a natural tooth root. One or more posts can be attached to a crown, bridge, or denture for a restoration that looks beautiful and seamless. If you have a missing tooth or teeth and are looking for a restoration that functions similarly to natural teeth, schedule a consultation to learn more about dental implants at our Cromwell, CT office. You may be interested in dental implants if you are tired of dealing with restorations that become loose over time or removable dentures that require a sticky adhesive to be held in place. Talk to our team about your concerns and learn if dental implants could be a good choice for you.
Best Candidates for Dental Implants
Dental implants can replace a missing tooth or teeth with an implant-supported crown, bridge, or denture. You may want to consider a dental implant if you currently have a regular dental restoration but are unhappy with the look, feel, or extra care involved with maintaining the appliance. Implants can be cleaned just like your natural teeth with regular brushing and flossing. During your dental implant consultation, one of our dentists will assess the health of your gums and jawbone in order to determine if a dental implant is the right option for you. If needed, a gum or bone graft may be completed before the implant is placed to ensure that you have a strong enough foundation to support the post. You may not be a candidate for dental implants if you are pregnant, use tobacco products, or are currently being treated for an oral condition, like gum disease.
What To Expect
Before a dental implant is placed, you may need to have damaged teeth extracted, gum grafts, or bone grafts. Once your mouth is ready for the implant, the treatment area will be numbed with an anesthetic. Sedation can be provided as well to help you feel more comfortable during the procedure. Our dentist will make an incision in your gum and place the titanium post into the jawbone. The incision will be closed while leaving part of the post visible above the gumline. This process will be repeated if multiple posts are needed. As the implant integrates with the bone and gum over the next few months, a temporary crown or cover will be placed to protect the post and serve as a short-term restoration. Once the dental implant has become fully integrated with your bone, the restoration (crown, bridge, or denture) will be attached to the post and adjusted for a good fit.
Preferred Dental of Cromwell Reviews
When I visited this office, I was greeted by the front desk, as is customary in most offices. The difference here is that they seemed happy to be at work. The dental assistant (I didn't get her name) was very sweet and polite. The dentist I saw, Dr. Schulman, was a super nice guy with great chairside manner. He was very professional and friendly. While I was in his chair, he did not seem rushed to finish the work, and I did not feel like just another number. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to get any work done. Everyone from the front desk to the dental hygienist, Tina, to Dr. Schulman are all great people. 10/10.
Absolutely the best!
My teeth cleaning was the best that’s been done in years. Genesis, at the front desk, is extremely helpful and knows how to get things done, my favorite!
I was fortunate to have Genesis help me with a few issues and finding my Dental Card, which I couldn’t find! She found it in their files and texted me a copy… not sure what I would have done otherwise!! Her personality and kindness are much appreciated and seldom seen!! Hopefully her office managers know or soon will!!! Thankyou, Genesis!!!
Very trauma friendly hygienist, dentist. Very willing and able to work with myself and my partner on a scary return to dental care.

Once your implants have healed and your custom restoration has been attached, you should follow a good home oral care routine that includes brushing, flossing, and the use of mouthwash. You should continue to schedule an annual exam and bi-annual cleanings at Preferred Dental of Cromwell so we can assess your oral health. We will let you know if your implants or restorations need to be adjusted or replaced.
